Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants 2007 Hyundai Entourage a ?Top Safety Pick? Award

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has named its Top Safety Picks for this year, and the 2007 Hyundai Entourage is among the thirteen total vehicles chosen throughout the industry. Joined by the Kia Sedona, the Hyundai Entourage was one of two winners in the ?Minivan? segment.

The Top Safety Pick Award requires a vehicle to achieve a ?Good? rating ? the top honor ? in front impact collision safety, side impact safety and whiplash protection due to rear impacts. To be considered, a vehicle must be equipped with electronic stability control, at least optionally, as the IIHS and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) believe stability control in every vehicle could save 10,000 lives annually in the United States. Last year?s ?Gold? and ?Silver? safety ratings have been replaced by the single and more stringent ?Top? rating.

Hyundai teams with Garmin to offer satellite navigation

Hyundai does not offer factory navigation in any of its vehicles, a condition that may turn off some buyers of the Sonata, Azera, Santa Fe and Entourage models who expect modern technological features in vehicles that are otherwise luxuriously equipped. However, the company has teamed with Garmin to offer the nüvi 360 Personal Travel Assistant across its U.S. dealership network.

Priced at $857.13, the Garmin nav system also includes Bluetooth hands-free wireless technology, MP3 playback capability, customizable points of interest and five bilingual dictionaries. A suction-cup system allows for easy installation, and the unit may also be detached and operated by pedestrians on foot.

Security features include a theft deterrent system that requires users to enter a four-digit PIN or take the device to a ?secure? location that has been predetermined in order to operate it.

Hyundai will offer the unit with all vehicle models at its 725 dealership locations in the United States. Watch for factory navigation systems in upcoming models as the company continues to upgrade its vehicle lineup.
